Founder
and President, Black Culinarian Association
At the age of 14 Alex Askew received his first food service job offer through a high school program. In 1987, after six years working in a variety of restaurants in and out of New York City, Alex decided to attend the Culinary Institute of America.
Capitalizing on the then-new focus on dining lifestyles and an array of cutting-edge trends in new menu alternatives, he began food research and development. He consulted for companies including General Mills, Hilton Hotels, Aramark Corporation and Specialty Restaurants, along with a host of private clients.
In 1993, Alex co-founded the Black Culinarian Alliance (BCA) which dedicates itself to education, awareness and exposure for people of color within the hospitality industry. The BCA’s importance continues to increase in the hospitality industry as diversity and inclusion become increasingly important both in the industry and society.
Alex has enjoyed guest appearances on Good Morning America, CBS Early Morning Show and the Food Network. With almost 24 years in the restaurant and hospitality field, Alex continues to expand his knowledge and experience. Alex also holds a doctorate of foodservices from the North American Foodservice Equipment Manufacturers.
