The State of Black Men in America: The Changing Faces of Leadership and the Quest for Excellence
Our inaugural State of Black Men in America conference on Saturday, March 4, 2006 titled “The Changing Faces of Leadership and the Quest for Excellence,” was a tremendous success and in fact surpassed our expectations. The conference was attended by two hundred and fifty students, faculty, and staff from fifteen colleges and featured 30 speakers from around the country. Through panel discussions, open forums, and a town hall meeting, our participants began a conversation that has continued even after the conference.
Participants were urged to take action in the form of continuing the conversation in their homes and in their communities. Each attendant showed the willingness and passion to tackle the issues that affect our communities, which made me confident that this conference has achieved its purpose.
