FACULTY HONOR: Brown, Portelli awarded Dan David Prize for ‘Retrieving the Past’

Peter Brown(Link is external), the Philip and Beulah Rollins Professor of History Emeritus and senior historian, and Alessandro Portelli, a lecturer in sociology, have been awarded the 2015 Dan David Prize(Link is external) (Link opens in new window), which recognizes achievements having an outstanding scientific, technological, cultural or social impact. Brown, recognized for reshaping our understanding of social and cultural change, and Portelli, honored for challenging the way we understand recording the past, will be awarded the $1 million prize in the category of “Retrieving the Past: Historians and Their Sources” at a ceremony May 17 at Tel Aviv University in Israel.

FACULTY AWARD: Botstein named 2012 Dan David Prize Laureate .

David Botstein, Princeton’s Anthony B. Evnin ’62 Professor of Genomics, professor of moleculary biology and director of the Lewis-Sigler Institute for Integrative Genomics, was one of six researchers recently named 2012 Dan David Prize Laureates. The $1 million prize recognizes Botstein’s important contributions to the understanding and mapping of the human genome. The prize is endowed by the Dan David Foundation and based at Tel Aviv University. It is presented yearly in honor of innovative and interdisciplinary research.

John Bahcall wins Dan David Prize .

Anson Rabinbach, European historian and ‘luminous spirit,’ dies at 79 .

Rabinbach joined Princeton’s faculty in 1996 and transferred to emeritus status in 2019. He served as director of the Humanities Council’s Program in European Cultural Studies from 1998 to 2008.
