David Karp, a mechanical and aerospace engineering(Link is external) major from Berwyn, Pa., will be the valedictorian for Princeton’s class of 2010, and Marguerite Colson, a history(Link is external) major from New York City, will be the Latin salutatorian.
The faculty accepted the nominations of the Faculty Committee on Examinations and Standing at its April 26 meeting.
Karp ranks first in his class with a 4.0 grade point average. In addition to his concentration in mechanical and aerospace engineering, he is pursuing certificates in applied and computational mathematics(Link is external), and in applications of computing(Link is external). He has received a Churchill Scholarship(Link is external) and a fellowship from the Fannie and John Hertz Foundation(Link is external), two prestigious awards that will support his graduate studies. Karp will deliver the valedictory address at Princeton’s Commencement(Link is external) ceremony on Tuesday, June 1.
Colson is the highest-ranking history concentrator in the class of 2010, standing 14th in the class overall. She also has excelled in advanced Latin courses. She will deliver the traditional salutatory oration in Latin at Commencement.
