solutions. Some solid
solution types are shown.
· Solid
solutions are favored by thermo-dynamics because of the reduction of the
free
energy of the solution by the entropy
of mixing.
· Solubility
limits exist for some materials, and solid phases of different composition
may exist in thermodynamic
equilibrium.
