Sometimes I cannot help but ask myself: why do you choose this
particular show to direct?
Although the original movie was based on the US judicial system,
Bobby and I believe that the essence of the system – the notion of
‘beyond reasonable doubt’ – is one that transcends culture and
nationality. Therefore, we decide to bring this show to our Chinese
Theatre and let Chinese actors and actresses illustrate their
understanding of the judicial system.
By delving into the essence of the judicial system, this show also touches
on issues such as human nature, responsibility, courage and prejudice.
Besides the theme of the show – the true meaning of justice, the various
kinds of relationship between different characters also contain a
multitude of topics that deserve careful analysis. And the details of the
show give the audience even broader space for exploration.
Since I have no prior experience in directing, every part of the
production process seems a great challenge to me. Fortunately, Bobby
is an experienced director and has given me tons of advice. Our actors
and actresses, stage manager and background crew are also very
cooperative and dedicated. The process of directing the show is
definitely a memorable learning experience for me. Therefore, I would
like to take the opportunity to thank all of them and everyone who has
contributed to this production in one way or another.
