Kinamo Lomon, director of public safety for the Willingboro, New Jersey, police department, has been named the Princeton Department of Public Safety’s director of operations. Lomon, who has more than 20 years of experience in law enforcement, will start his new role Dec. 2.

As director of operations, Lomon will serve as second-in-command for DPS, reporting to Kenneth Strother, Jr., assistant vice president for public safety. He will oversee the day-to-day operations for DPS, including patrol, the detective bureau, the communications center, community relations, IT and cultural property security. He will also lead DPS training and professional development initiatives, along with recruitment efforts, and will manage the command of campus emergencies and special events.
“Kinamo is an established leader with a proven record of excellence and commitment to the communities for which he has served,” said Strother. “He has the experience and vision to lead the daily operations as we continue our community caretaking mission for the campus community.”
“The director of operations serves an integral role as we work to ensure the safety of our campus,” said Laura Strickler, deputy for safety and administration and chief of staff to the executive vice president. “I am confident that Kinamo will establish a deep connection with the campus community, with a focus on excellent service through a community caretaking approach to public safety.”
In his most recent role, Lomon was the executive head of the Willingboro Police Department, Fire Department, and EMS departments, and the Willingboro Office of Emergency Management. He was responsible for these units’ operations and oversaw the duties and assignments of all personnel.
He created a community engagement unit that was designed to build and maintain meaningful community-based relationships between police officers, residents and businesses through a variety of programs and events. The goal was to strengthen the bonds of trust between the police department and the community.
Lomon designed several programs to engage the Willingboro community, including a police chaplain program, a series of “Story with a Cop” virtual reading events during the COVID-19 pandemic and “Walk a Mile in My Shoes,” where community members were invited to walk with officers at the community track to ask questions and discuss community issues and police department responses.
He has been an officer in the Willingboro Police Department since 2000 and has held multiple leadership roles. He was promoted to the rank of captain in 2019, the department’s highest sworn position.
Lomon graduated from Rutgers University with a bachelor of science in administration of justice and has a master of arts in organizational management with a specialization in leadership from Ashford University. He is a 2017 graduate of the FBI National Academy’s 267th session.
