Beginning with the first day of classes on Wednesday, Sept. 13, students, faculty and staff members will have additional exterior door access to academic buildings with Registrar classroom spaces. To accommodate better the work and activities that continue into the evening hours, TigerCard holders will be able to access electronically controlled buildings from 7 a.m. until midnight during the week and from 7 a.m. until 8:30 p.m. on weekends.
This extended-hours policy offers several benefits to the University community:
- Increased access to academic classrooms.
- Enhanced personal safety with accessible, yet locked, buildings.
- Established hours for visitors and guests.
- Reduced need for unlock requests.
To take advantage of the extended access, students, faculty and staff will need to carry their TigerCard at all times. Extended building hours will be included on all active TigerCards starting the first day of class, requiring no additional action on cardholders' part.
While not every building with a classroom is included under this new policy (e.g., no residential dorms), the Facilities website provides a list of buildings offering extended access. The site also offers a set of Frequently Asked Questions about extended building hours.
Inside these buildings, the classrooms should be unlocked 24/7. Other interior doors will continue to be locked with limited access (e.g., laboratories and department classrooms, which are controlled by the building access coordinator). If a classroom is empty after hours, it can be used by faculty, students or staff. If space needs to be reserved, the Registrar will continue to schedule classrooms in the same way and with the same priority levels.
Contact the TigerCard office at 609-258-8300 or by email at tigercard@princeton.edu with any questions about new standard building hours.
