A renovation of McCosh Health Center's first floor is planned to improve the experience of students, faculty and staff using University Health Services (UHS). Students and employees are encouraged to schedule routine medical and summer travel appointments by May 23 before work starts at the building.
To facilitate the renovation, UHS departments will be temporarily relocated in either Caldwell Field House or Green Hall starting June 1. UHS will continue to provide services from these temporary locations. Up-to-date information about department relocations and renovation schedules is available on the UHS website.
The project will redesign the first floor of McCosh Health Center to better integrate medical services and create a more modern and welcoming health care setting. A new entrance and reception area will streamline the check-in process for students and increase patient privacy. The layout of offices and exam rooms will be upgraded to improve patient access and flow. Faculty and staff access to Employee Health will be improved with the department's move from the ground level to the first floor.
"The renovation of McCosh's first floor is an exciting development and promises to enhance the student health experience," UHS Executive Director John Kolligian said. "One aim is to make the facility more welcoming, aesthetically pleasing, and offer new, innovative functions to streamline care delivery for students, faculty and staff. Some elements of the historic building's first floor charm will be retained. Yet these elements will be complemented by the best that modern health care design has to offer."
The temporary locations for UHS departments are:
- Caldwell Fieldhouse will house Outpatient Medical Services (including Travel and Immunization and Sexual Health and Wellness), Athletic Medicine, Employee Health, Quest Laboratory and Hamilton Physical Therapy.
- Green Hall will house Counseling and Psychological Services, SHARE (Sexual Harassment/Assault Resources and Education), Health Promotion and Prevention Services, and UHS administrative offices.
Almost all UHS departments expect to return to McCosh Health Center by early September. Renovation work will continue in some areas of the first floor through the fall and completion of the project is expected near the end of this year.
