FACULTY HONOR: Poor named National Academy of Inventors Fellow

H. Vincent Poor, dean of Princeton University's School of Engineering and Applied Science and the Michael Henry Strater University Professor of Electrical Engineering, has been named a 2015 fellow of the National Academy of Inventors. The honor recognizes academic inventors who hold patents on inventions with "a tangible impact on quality of life, economic development and the welfare of society." Poor was among 168 new fellows nationwide to be nominated and elected. The fellows will be inducted April 15, 2016, during the Fifth Annual Conference of the National Academy of Inventors in Alexandria, Virginia.

Two Princeton University faculty members have been named fellows of the National Academy of Inventors, which honors academic inventors whose inventions have made a tangible impact on society. Among the 2015 Fellows are Ilhan Aksay, professor of chemical and biological engineering, and Emily Carter, the Gerhard R. Andlinger Professor in Energy and the Environment and director of Princeton's Andlinger Center for Energy and the Environment. The new fellows will be inducted Mar. 20, 2015, at the academy's fourth annual conference to be held at the California Institute of Technology.

FACULTY HONOR: Poor elected to Royal Society in the United Kingdom .

The Royal Society, the United Kingdom's national academy of science, has elected H. Vincent Poor, dean of Princeton University's School of Engineering and Applied Science, as a member.

Stone and Sturm named to National Academy of Inventors .

The National Academy of Inventors has named Princeton engineering professors Howard Stone and James Sturm among 168 fellows for 2019. Academy fellows are nominated by their peers for work that has benefited society.

Vincent Poor, distinguished teacher-scholar, to become engineering dean .

H. Vincent Poor, a Princeton alumnus and professor of electrical engineering known worldwide as a distinguished researcher, teacher and innovator, has been named dean of the University's School of Engineering and Applied Science, effective June 1.

FACULTY AWARDS: Four elected to National Academy of Sciences .

Four Princeton faculty members have been elected to the National Academy of Sciences this year. They are David Gabai, the Hughes-Rogers Professor of Mathematics; Sara McLanahan, the William S. Tod Professor of Sociology and Public Affairs; Loren Pfeiffer, senior research scholar in electrical engineering; and H. Vincent Poor, dean of the School of Engineering and Applied Science and the Michael Henry Strater University Professor of Electrical Engineering.

Leader of major growth in Princeton engineering, Poor to step down as dean .

H. Vincent Poor, dean of the School of Engineering and Applied Science at Princeton University for the past nine years and a leader in the field of wireless communications, will step down as the school's eighth dean at the end of the next academic year, June 30, 2016.
