Cotsen Children’s Library promotes love of literacy

The Cotsen Children’s Library, which serves children and scholars, contains children's books, manuscripts, original artwork, toys and prints spanning the 15th century to the present day.

Princeton University's Cotsen Children's Library will receive the prestigious Carle Honors Angel Award from the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art on Thursday, Sept. 24. The award will be given during an annual benefit at Guastavino's in New York City, honoring people who have played an instrumental role in making children’s books a vibrant and influential art and literary form in America.

Lloyd Cotsen, a member of the Class of 1950 and one of Princeton's most generous donors, died May 8 of natural causes at home in Beverly Hills, California. He was 88.

Princeton University has placed a new digital library of 200 Islamic manuscripts online for scholars to consult and study.

Summer institute puts teachers in role of students .

For a group of teachers spending two weeks as students on the Princeton campus, fairy tales and other children's stories are a serious topic of discussion. Participants in the Teachers as Scholars Summer Institute, which runs July 9-20, are delving into works such as "Cinderella," "Beauty and the Beast" and "The Jungle Book" in seminars led by Ulrich Knoepflmacher, a professor emeritus of English who developed Princeton's first courses on children's literature.

Exhibition, symposium examine Renaissance coins, Nov. 9 .
