Watch the video below for an introduction to the "Global History Lab," an online course that allows participants from around the world to join Princeton undergraduates on a journey through world history.
The Massive Open Online Course (MOOC), taught by Jeremy Adelman, Princeton's Henry Charles Lea Professor of History, uses lectures, case studies, primary sources and team-based projects to provide insights into the world from 1300 to the present.
"My hope is for students to get a sense of the long arc of the increasingly interdependent world that began well before the Industrial Revolution, well before free trade, well before what we would now call globalization," Adelman said. "As a historian, I really want students to walk away with a deep sense of the past of our planet."
This video conversation features Adelman, along with four students from Princeton and four students from around the world, discussing the goals, lessons and mechanics of the course. The first half of the "Global History Lab" has concluded for students participating in the online course through the NovoEd learning platform. The second half of the course, focusing on the period from the Industrial Revolution to the present, begins this week. The course is open to everyone, regardless of whether they participated in the first part. The course is free. Open online courses offered by Princeton faculty do not result in Princeton credit.
