Princeton students fan out around the globe each summer for research, service, learning and adventure.

Students participate in summer study abroad programs and internships arranged through the University and independently. Others travel around the world to do research for their senior thesis or other projects. Many receive significant financial assistance through the University.

More than 1,300 Princeton undergraduate and graduate students traveled throughout the United States and to 90 countries around the globe last summer for academic study, independent research, internships and civic engagement projects. Princeton extends learning through online Coursera classes .

Historian Jeremy Adelman is spending this fall teaching "A History of the World since 1300" to more than 50 students at Princeton University — and 80,000 students across the globe. Adelman is among seven professors debuting classes on the educational website Coursera as the University explores online technology to enhance learning at Princeton and extend its educational resources beyond campus.

Diana Davies, Vice Provost for International Initiatives, is helping to carry out the goals outlined in the 2007 report "Princeton in the World" that maps out an international vision for the University.  

Global Health Program shapes students in the classroom and in the field .

Princeton's Global Health Program serves as a hub for students interested in tackling some of the most pressing health-related issues of our time. Students can earn a certificate in global health and health policy and also pursue a wide range of opportunities, such as participating in a summer internship in the United States or abroad, taking health-related courses, finding support for health-related thesis research, and getting involved with on-campus activities related to global health.

Video feature: 'Hero': The making of a senior thesis .

Eamon Foley, a member of the Class of 2015, was an anthropology major who also earned a certificate in theater. For his theater thesis, he blended his academic studies in ethnography — the process of studying a culture through observation and interviews — with his professional experience as a performer to create an original theater-dance piece titled "Hero." The show tells the story of a young man transformed by his experiences in the Vietnam War through indie rock music, dance and aerial choreography.

Bridge Year alumni: Where are they now? .

In fall 2009, 20 students became pioneers of Princeton University's Bridge Year Program. They journeyed across the world to spend nine months before their freshman year doing community service work, learning new languages and experiencing cultures and customs unknown to them. Today, those students are young alumni one year out of Princeton whose experiences on campus and paths after graduation were influenced by their participation in Bridge Year.

Senior thesis research: Coming back from the field .

Princeton undergraduates span the globe to conduct research for their senior theses, often delving deeply into their projects the summer before the start of senior year. The Office of Undergraduate Research invited members of the Class of 2015 to share their research experiences of the past summer, from locations such as the Shanghai theater district and the Cascade Range mountains of Washington state.
