Student work: Late-night chamber jam with the St. Lawrence String Quartet

In fall 2013, Princeton University Concerts presented a post-concert, late-night chamber jam with the St. Lawrence String Quartet. Princeton students and community members came together with the quartet to read Haydn's "Emperor Quartet" after the quartet's concert in Richardson Auditorium.

The four winners of the second annual Creative Reactions Contest — an initiative of Princeton University Concerts (PUC) — do have one thing in common: they all wrote poems. Over the course of six months, the 80 Princeton students who entered the contest received a free ticket to attend one of seven PUC concerts and were asked to capture the experience of hearing live classical music. The form was flexible, allowing for blank verse, prose, poetry, narrative, even lyrics.

The Creative Reactions Contest was held for the first time this spring, a new initiative of Princeton University Concerts (PUC). Marna Seltzer, director of PUC, said the annual contest is "designed to foster reflection on the impact of hearing classical music, as perceived by Princeton students."

A collaboration established between Princeton and the Royal College of Music (RCM) in 2007 offers Princeton students the opportunity to spend the fall semester of their junior year at the prestigious conservatory and is offered as part of Princeton's Study Abroad Program. Two undergraduates, Darya Koltunyuk and Katherine Buzard, and a 2011 alumnus, Joseph Gotoff, capture the RCM experience and share how it influenced their time at Princeton and their plans for the future.

When Jonathan Vinocour, a 2001 Princeton alumnus, was an undergraduate, he always looked forward to Sunday evening rehearsals with the Princeton University Orchestra, where he was section leader for the violas. This video captures the experience Vinocour — now principal violist with the San Francisco Symphony — had when he came back to campus with the East Coast Chamber Orchestra, known as ECCO, a chamber orchestra he co-founded.

Student work: Chris Thile and Edgar Meyer to perform .

At 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, mandolin virtuoso Chris Thile and bassist Edgar Meyer will perform at Richardson Auditorium. This preview features Princeton junior Noah Fishman and senior Austin Gengos performing and talking about the concert. Learn more.

The Princeton University Orchestra will be performing at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 4 and 5 in Richardson Auditorium in Alexander Hall.

Creative collaboration produces original opera .

Students in Princeton's Atelier program, which brings guest artists to campus to collaborate with students and faculty, will direct and perform "The Antient Concert," an original chamber opera written by Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Paul Muldoon and composer Daron Hagen. The performance, which is free and open to the public, is scheduled for 8 p.m. Sunday, April 17, in the Berlind Theatre.
