Members of Princeton University's Undergraduate Student Government (USG) — who were spread out across the globe this summer as they pursue their academic and career interests — are offering a virtual welcome to the Class of 2017.

In this video, students offer greetings and advice to freshmen, ranging from practical tips about organizing computer files and selecting classes, to guidance on tracking personal growth and maintaining family ties.

The USG members also introduce freshmen to the organization. The organization serves as a liaison to University administrators; has seats on the Council of the Princeton University Community, a representative body made up of students, faculty, staff and alumni; coordinates programs and services, such as discounts at local restaurants and retailers; hosts campuswide social events; and helps fund student organizations.

USG is one of hundreds of undergraduate student organizations — spanning dance, debate, education, entrepreneurship, the environment, ethnicity and nationality, media, music, political and special interest, religion, service, student government and theater — that allow Princeton students to pursue existing interests or explore new ones on campus. These organizations are created and run by students with support from the Office of the Dean of Undergraduate Students and the USG's Projects Board.
