Silas Riener, a 2006 Princeton alumnus and a former member of Merce Cunningham Dance Company, has returned to campus to work with students in the dance program at the Lewis Center of the Arts on two performance projects that celebrate the mid-20th-century collaboration of dancer and choreographer Merce Cunningham and artist Robert Rauschenberg.

Choreographers and students reimagined what it means to create and present dance remotely in the run-up to the annual Princeton Dance Festival.

What I think: Rebecca Lazier .

Rebecca Lazier, a native of Halifax, Nova Scotia, is a senior lecturer in dance in the Lewis Center for the Arts who also choreographs and directs a project-based group of dancers in New York. After graduating from Juilliard, she became a choreographer and joined Princeton in 2002. In these musings, drawn from two interviews, Lazier reflects on childhood summers spent by the ocean, body image and her feet, fear, the role of research, teaching and collaborating at Princeton, and the challenges and rewards of choreographing her latest work.

Students perform in Spring Dance Festival .

More than 50 students from a range of academic departments will perform in Princeton's annual Spring Dance Festival Friday through Sunday, Feb. 19-21, at the Berlind Theatre. Performances are slated for 8 p.m. Friday, 2 and 8 p.m. Saturday, and 1 p.m. Sunday. The event is sponsored by the Program in Dance in the Lewis Center for the Arts.

Students bring learning to stage in Spring Dance Festival .

Many students come to Princeton with a talent for dance already well established. Others begin to explore dance as a new passion as part of their undergraduate experience. For all of these students, the annual Spring Dance Festival offers an opportunity to bring months of dance study and rehearsal to the stage, performing works by celebrated choreographers as well as original pieces students had a role in creating.

All semester, professional choreographers and more than 60 Princeton students have been preparing for the annual Princeton Dance Festival, which takes place Dec. 4-6 at the Berlind Theatre at McCarter Theatre Center.

Princeton names Center for the Arts after donor Lewis .

Princeton University on Thursday, Nov. 8, named its new arts center the Peter B. Lewis Center for the Arts in recognition of the $101 million gift Lewis pledged last year to support the University's major arts initiative.
