Princeton music professor Barbara White leads a freshman seminar dealing with the elusiveness of quiet and blurring boundaries between everyday life and art.

When Princeton music professor Barbara White faced a number of personal health challenges that affected her ability to experience music, she channeled her coping into a new field of artistic exploration. In this video, White explains how her experience led her to a journey in search of silence, which she is sharing with a group of freshmen this fall in a new seminar.

Freshman Seminar 187: Earth's Environments and Ancient Civilizations .

In the freshman seminar, "Earth's Environments and Ancient Civilizations," students study how to use global positioning systems (GPS), archaeological and geological data, geophysical technology, and computer programs to seek and examine the buried remnants of lost civilizations. The course included a trip to Cyprus, where students collected data for final presentations about how ancient civilizations altered the landscape and changed the environment — and vice versa.

Kicking off a study of Latin America through soccer .

In the freshman seminar "Soccer in Latin America: Politics, History and Popular Culture " 15 students are exploring why so many people are addicted to the sport. The class is being taught by Bruno Carvalho, an assistant professor of Spanish and Portuguese languages and cultures who grew up with a passion for soccer in Brazil.

Thousands of Princeton students turned out for the sixth annual Princeton University Dodgeball Tournament in Dillon Gymnasium this April.
