Daniel Carpenter, the Allie S. Freed Professor of Government and director of the Center for American Political Studies at Harvard University, will speak on "The Contest of Lobbies and Disciplines: Financial Politics and Regulatory Reform in the Obama Administration" at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 9, 2011, in Burr Hall, Room 216, at Princeton University.
The event, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by the Politics of the Economic Crisis research cluster in the Princeton Institute for International and Regional Studies as part of its spring speaker series.

Carpenter's research interests include the theoretical, historical and quantitative analysis of American political development; public bureaucracies; and government regulation, particularly regulation of health products. His most recent book is "Reputation and Power: Organizational Image and Pharmaceutical Regulation at the FDA" (2010).
The Politics of the Economic Crisis research cluster is co-directed by Larry Bartels, the Donald E. Stokes Professor of Public and International Affairs and director of the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs' Center for the Study of Democratic Politics; Nancy Bermeo, the Nuffield Professor of Comparative Politics and director of the Center for the Study of Inequality and Democracy at the University of Oxford; and Jonas Pontusson, a professor of comparative politics at the University of Geneva.
