The National Academy of Sciences (NAS) has honored Bonnie Bassler, Princeton's Squibb Professor of Molecular Biology, and Paul Reider, lecturer in the Department of Chemistry, with awards for extraordinary scientific achievements. Bassler received the Richard Lounsbery Award for pioneering discoveries in chemical communication between bacteria. The award recognizes achievement by French and American scientists in biology and medicine. Reider received the NAS Award for Chemistry in Service to Society for his contributions to the discovery and development of numerous drugs that have treated diseases, including asthma and AIDS. Bassler and Reider will be honored in a ceremony at the NAS’s 148th annual meeting in May.
