More than 2,000 people are expected to visit campus this month for Princeton Preview, as newly admitted students arrive to sample the University's academic, residential and social offerings. The annual hosting program will be held Thursday through Saturday, April 15-17 and 22-24.
Princeton Preview was extended two years ago from one program to two three-day sessions to accommodate greater numbers of students and family members after the University ended its binding early decision admission process. Princeton has accepted 2,148 of a record 26,247 applicants for admission to the class of 2014.
"Expanding the Princeton Preview program two years ago enabled us to bring more of the admitted students to campus," said Dean of Admission Janet Rapelye, whose office oversees Princeton Preview. "They saw firsthand the strengths of our academic, residential and social life at Princeton.
"We look forward this year to welcoming our admitted students and their families to campus to give them a close look at the many opportunities available here," Rapelye added. "They will benefit from the guidance and insights of our community members in academic departments, residential colleges, programs and centers, whose participation contributes to the success of the Princeton Preview event."
Admitted students will be able to sit in on classes, take campus tours and attend panel discussions with students, faculty, and deans on topics such as academic and residential life, multiculturalism and life after Princeton. Panel discussions also will be offered on opportunities available through the Study Abroad Program and the Bridge Year Program, which continues this spring when 20 entering freshmen will be selected, defer their enrollment and spend nine months abroad in service beginning this fall.
Princeton Preview participants also can attend an activities fair hosted by student organizations and clubs as well as open houses at Career Services, the Center for Jewish Life, the Office of Religious Life, the Fields Center and the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Center. They will spend the night with Princeton student hosts and attend social events in the residential colleges and elsewhere on campus.
Students and their family members will begin arriving as early as 8 a.m. each Thursday, and the program will run through 10:30 a.m. Saturday morning.
