Emily Carter, the Arthur W. Marks '19 Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering and Applied and Computational Mathematics, has been elected a member of the International Academy of Quantum Molecular Science.
Members are chosen from among the scientists of all countries who have distinguished themselves by the value of their scientific work, their role of pioneer or as leaders of a school in the broad field of quantum molecular science.
Carter was elected to the academy during its 46th annual meeting held in June in Helsinki, Finland.
A Princeton faculty member since 2004, Carter creates state-of-the-art computer simulations that model complex phenomena in chemistry and materials science. The ultimate practical goal of such work is to engineer new nanomaterials -- materials designed on an atom-by-atom level -- that perform better than existing materials or replace them altogether.
