Gaetana Marrone-Puglia, a professor of French and Italian at Princeton, has been awarded the Fondazione Rubbettino First Prize for her work in editing the Encyclopedia of Italian Studies.
The encyclopedia, published by Routledge in 2007, includes contributions from some 240 international scholars on a range of Italian cultural and literary subjects. By assessing Italy's contribution to world culture since the Middle Ages, "it represents a mission of great interest and scholarly commitment," the Italian cultural foundation said in announcing the award.
The $5,000 prize is named for the late Italian publisher Rosario Rubbettino. Marrone-Puglia received the award on Oct. 25 in Italy.
Marrone-Puglia, a Princeton faculty member since 1985, specializes in modern Italian literature and postwar Italian cinema. Her principal publications focus on 19th- and 20th- century literature, film and women's studies.
