Tilghman elected to Carnegie board

Princeton President Shirley M. Tilghman has been elected to the board of trustees of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.

"We are delighted that Shirley will be joining the board. Her academic leadership and brilliant scholarship serve as models for the Carnegie Endowment and its research staff," said board chair James C. Gaither. "We'll value her contribution as we approach the 100th anniversary of the institution."

The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace is a private, nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing cooperation between nations and promoting active international engagement by the United States. Founded in 1910, its work is nonpartisan and dedicated to achieving practical results. The endowment publishes Foreign Policy, one of the world's leading magazines of international politics and economics which reaches readers in more than 120 countries and several languages.

Princeton has had previous representation on the Carnegie board: President Emeritus Robert F. Goheen was a trustee from 1981 to 1991.

Dougherty selected as director of Princeton University Press .

Peter J. Dougherty, a 13-year employee of Princeton University Press and a 33-year veteran of the publishing industry, has been named the new director of the Press. His appointment, effective July 1, was approved March 23 at a meeting of the Press' board of trustees. He will succeed Walter Lippincott, director of the Press since 1986, who plans to retire.

Leach, Petraeus to receive top alumni awards .
