Vice President for Human Resources Maureen Nash, who has initiated and overseen significant changes in the University's human resources policies and practices over the past two years, has announced her intention to leave the University at the end of the calendar year.
"I was recruited to lead a redesign of the human resources functions at Princeton, and we have largely accomplished that goal," Nash said. "I have enjoyed my experience at Princeton, but what the department needs now is someone who can focus on strengthening essential systems and managing operations. My interests in organization learning and leadership development are guiding me to career pursuits in another venue."
President Shirley M. Tilghman expressed appreciation for Nash's "devotion to Princeton, her creativity and resourcefulness in developing a new blueprint for her department, her extensive knowledge and experience in the field of human resources, and her determination that Princeton should attract, retain and support an excellent and dedicated staff. We are grateful for her many contributions to Princeton, and we wish her success as she now applies her many talents to other challenges in the years ahead."
Nash came to Princeton in January 2003 after a long career in the private sector, most recently at Bristol-Myers Squibb where she served as vice president of worldwide learning and development. Her accomplishments at Princeton include the creation of a human resources "solution center" designed to increase efficiency and improve customer service, enhanced recruiting efforts under a recently introduced Jobs@Princeton initiative, and the introduction of supervisory and management development curricula.
A national search for Nash's successor will be led by Vice President for Administration Mark Burstein, who will oversee the department until a new appointment is made. He will work closely with the senior leadership of the department, including Robert Pearson, general manager; Claire Elson, director of the HR solution center; Alison Nelson, manager of benefits; Scott Willett, director of learning and leading; and Chris Hatt, director of compensation, program management and information services.
