Talk by Dr. Andreas Fender: Augmenting Space and Time
Immersive technologies have not only become commercially successful in the entertainment industry but also enable physical-digital work environments for productive and creative use cases. This includes tasks like writing, sketching and 3D modeling. However, while current 3D interaction techniques work very well in fully immersive playful entertainment scenarios, the requirements for immersive interaction in productive and creative applications vastly differ. Low fatigue and low latency are the top priorities for enabling long-term productive work. Similarly, creative use cases require input methods that inherently support artistic exploration and expression.
In this talk, Dr. Fender will present his previous and ongoing research that aims to unleash the potential of immersive technologies as well as mobile scenarios for productivity and creativity. He will discuss requirements and present current results in terms of (1) low-level input methods that enable high precision in immersive systems as well as in mobile use cases, and (2) a high-level perspective on potential future productivity workflows and work environments including collaboration in physical-digital realities. His previous artifact contributions that he will present in this two-level perspective will range from novel pen input methods to seamless collaboration across time.
