About the Program
In 2009, the Princeton Institute for International and Regional Studies (PIIRS) will offer five Princeton Global Seminars: in Istanbul, Turkey, at Koç University (June 15-July 24); in St. Petersburg, Russia, at Herzen State Pedagogical University (June 15-July 24); in São Salvador da Bahia and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, at Universidade Federal da Bahia and Pontifícia Universidade Católica (June 27-August 8); in Accra and Kumasi, Ghana, at the Kokrobitey Institute and Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (June 15-July 24); and in Hanoi, Vietnam, at Vietnam National University (June 6-July 18).
Each seminar, open to 12–15 freshmen, sophomores, and juniors, is designed to provide students with new opportunities and incentives to explore the international dimensions of their academic interests. It is led by one to three faculty who have created a unique program of study that can only be fully experienced by traveling to the city and country that are at the heart of its subject matter. Daily lectures by seminar faculty and guests, daily language classes, weekend excursions to sites relevant to the course, and community service make up the course prospectus.
Admission to the seminars is through an application and interview.
