A letter from a reader: No dinks or beanies Congratulations on the Sept. 26 edition. This is one of the best issues of the Alumni Weekly I have read in years. I find fault, however, with the legend accompanying the From the Archives photograph, showing freshmen of the Class of 1942, the subject of which is described as "[f]rosh in their ‘dinks,' the beanies they were made to wear …" The terms were freshmen and freshman caps; the terms frosh, dink, and beany were scorned as coming from outsiders, whether Hollywood, the popular press, or wherever else not worthy of Princeton.
