Composite Materials

· The cyclic-stress, steady state crack growth rate in composites follows a Paris type of behavior as illustrated: (da/dN) = B ( K)m
· Curve (A) is for a glass cloth reinforced polyester matrix in which the fibers are woven into an orthogonal array. For this system m = 13.
· Curve (C) is for a chopped-strand glass-fiber- mat reinforced polyester matrix. The fibers have random orientations with respect to the tensile-tensile fatigue axis. For this case m = 6.
· Similar behavior has been found in uniaxial composites.
