Composite Materials

· The diagram below shows the fracture stress ratio for short and long fibers as a function of (L / Lc)
· For a fiber of length L > 5 LC the loss of fracture strength is negligible compared to a continuous fiber composite.
· Short fibers may be included in a liquid matrix, aligned by flow through a nozzle, and the system cured to give a short fiber composite of low cost.
