Plastic Deformation

· Resolved shear stress/ resolved shear strain curves for single crystals of hcp magnesium, fcc copper and bcc iron are shown.
· For hcp magnesium, a low uniform work hardening rate occurs over the complete deformation range to fracture.
· For fcc copper, the work hardening rate is low until a 10% strain after which the rate increases.
· For bcc iron, the work hardening rate is high over the complete deformation range.
