Sintering and Powder Metallurgy

· Metal and ceramic powders may be made into dense solids by diffusion controlled sintering.
· This part fabrication technique is valuable for materials that are difficult to cast or machine.
· For materials of high cost, waste is low due to the fabrication to near net shape.
· The final properties of the components are close to those of equivalent parts made from bulk material, e.g. the density may be 95% of the crystal density.
