Fullerenes,
C60 , or Buckey-Balls, are a newly found form of carbon. The
one shown has a potassium atom in the center of the carbon cage, but empty
cages are the common configuration.
· Fullerine crystals may be grown by evaporation of a benzene solution of C60. These crystals have a face-centered-cubic structure with the Buckey-Balls behaving as a single unit. |
