Rock Climbing and Images

Bas Leading

Rock climbing was my passion! I started in the summer of 1991; my last climbing trip was in the Sierras, Thanksgiving week 2018.

Click here for some rock and climbing pictures, and a list of some of my favorite climbs.

You can also take a look at my main climbing partner Ric Otte's impressive climbing page, though that belongs to another order of magnitude in mountaineering.

I was also quite passionate about trapeze for more than ten years, (flying with the greatest of ease, etc -- not all of that applies in my case ...), after starting with the Trapeze Club of New Paltz NY, and especially when I had the chance to take lessons at the circus schools in Oakland and San Francisco. But since 2012 let it go, in favor of gym climbing, to augment the rock experience.

Hiking

Leaving Roncesvalles

In 2014 I became more devotedly interested in hiking. On the rock and climbing pictures page there is a photo of a backpacking trip in Colorado in 2014, and in the spring of 2015 I walked 800 km on the Camino de Santiago from St. Jean Pied de Port to Santiago.

Local Fauna

Zoe Charley & Leo

I find cats enormously intriguing, since I grew up with one (my childhood companion Pintje). Now, since 2012 life with animals has become a fascinating saga. Isabelle Peschard and I are maried, and in that year Isabelle became involved in dog (pitbull) rescue, and more recently in cat rescue, in both of which I am thoroughly involved. Here I will post just some anecdotal images and memories. Here is my special dog Zoe , when she first arrived and here are Charley & Leo.

(PS: Zoe's full registered name, reflecting her multi-national and multi-cultural environment, is Zoe Grietje Peschard van Fraassen.) Most recent news: Zoe now has a playmate, puppy Emma (full name: Emma Tietje).

Here are Zoe and Emma at play:
