Finally, a merry child at PCT! If you have been to our
past shows and have experienced the melancholy of the peach
blossoms, the rolling thunderstorms, and the ominous lighter,
Zou and the King must seem like an unexpected digression from
what appears to be PCT’s self‐appointed mission of unveiling the
many intricate secrets of the dark human soul. Despite its
apparent lack of heart‐wrenching monologues and teary
relationships, however, I have to admit that Zou and the King
was a true joy to direct. This is largely thanks to my wonderful
co‐directors, Yupeng and Xiaolei, and all the amazing actors we
have. I would also like to applaud Yi An’11, who is chilling in
Beijing University right now, for such a creative script. While I
was still a high school student in China struggling to memorize
the ancient historical text from which this play is adapted, never
could I have imagined that one day I would be helping to create a
world out of those very words.
So please, sit back, relax, and prepare for a journey
back in time…
