"Founded in 1986, the Princeton University Players is an entirely student-run production company that engages theater-lovers and supports theater-makers on Princeton's campus and beyond. We provide the opportunity for a wide range of Princeton University students to develop their talents and passions by producing works of established and original musical theater. We believe that the highest quality product emerges from an enjoyable and enriching process within an open and welcoming community. We are students empowering other students in their artistic endeavors."As the last major undertaking of her term, our 2013-14 PUP President Izzy Kasdin '14 coordinated an effort to draft a mission statement for PUP - something she has hoped to see PUP do since her freshman year on board. I spoke a bit with Izzy about why the mission statement project means so much to her, and she noted her desire to bring a greater sense of coherence and direction to PUP's regularly changing and growing seasons, special projects, and body of participants and supporters. In order to brainstorm and formulate the statement, Izzy invited current and former PUP board members, directors, and workshop writers to share their PUP experiences and insights at a town hall meeting last spring. The mission statement we came up with values both artistic process and product, recognizes the open and supportive PUP community, and emphasizes the special worth of entirely student-run work in musical theatre.
