HURRICANE RELIEF BENEFIT -- Ben Smolen '07 performs during a classical concert at Richardson Auditorium to benefit victims of Hurricane Katrina. Several student musicians took part in the Sept. 13 event, one of four fund-raising events held during the first week of classes. The proceeds were to be donated to the Red Cross and to a fund for Gulf coast schools and libraries.

UP TEMPO -- Drum major Charlie Bergen '07 leads the Princeton University Band during the Sept. 24 football game against San Diego at Princeton Stadium. The Tigers won, 20-17, for their second straight win of the season.

CANE SPREE 2005: Elizabeth Lemoine '09, left, and Roxanne Schneider '08 fight for possession of the cane on Poe Field during the traditional competition between freshmen and sophomores. More than 1,600 students participated in the Sept. 28 event, which included 14 sports. The Class of 2009 carried the day.

A JOB FAIR by the School of Engineering and Applied Science drew more than 500 students to meet with more than 60 companies and other organizations Oct. 14 in Dillon Gym. Among the new companies sending recruiters this year were Apple and Ask Jeeves; Microsoft recruiters met with students as their chairman, Bill Gates, was giving a speech on campus in Richardson Auditorium

ROCKET PROPULSION PIONEER HONORED -- Robert G. Jahn '51 *55, left, dean of the School of Engineering and Applied Science, emeritus, is congratulated by Peter Turchi '67 *70, president of the Electric Rocket Propulsion Society, after receiving the Medal of Outstanding Achievement in Electric Propulsion. The award was presented Oct. 31 during the International Electric Propulsion Conference at Princeton, chaired by Professor Edgar Choueiri *91 of the mechanical and aerospace engineering department. Electric propulsion is a method of powering rockets for deep-space exploration.

TRIANGLE'S BACK -- Jed Peterson '06 and Faaria Kherani '09 join forces Nov. 11 at McCarter Theatre in the Triangle Club's new show, "Excess Hollywood." Kherani plays Tavia Turner, the writer of a novel being made into a film; Peterson is Le Stat, a Frenchman who sabotages the Americans' film efforts.

ON STAGE -- Sam Zetumer '09 and Lisa Curry '06 take on the roles of brother and sister in "A Long History of Neglect," a play written by Noah Haidle '01 and performed by a student cast for two weekends in November at the Berlind Theatre. The play, which focuses on an adolescent boy's attempt to find a place for himself in the universe, was directed by Davis McCallum '97, a lecturer in theater and dance.

AIDS AWARENESS -- A host of small red flags in front of Frist Campus Center during World AIDS Week tracked the number of AIDS deaths each year since 1982. Each flag represented 15,000 deaths, according to Zahir Kanjee '06, president of the Student Global AIDS Campaign. A series of events during the week raised $1,500 for The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.

HIGH-TECH GATHERING -- James Sturm '79, at left, director of the Princeton Institute for the Science and Technology of Materials (PRISM), and James Wei, center, former engineering school dean, greet Thomas Connelly Jr. '74, senior vice president and chief science and technology officer of DuPont, Feb. 2 at the Friend Center. Connelly was the keynote speaker during a two-day symposium of academic, industry, and government researchers in fields related to PRISM and the Princeton Center for Complex Materials. Among the fields are nanotechnology, optical and wireless technologies, and life sciences materials.

COMEDY FOR A CAUSE -- Ben Fast '06 performs a stand-up comedy routine Feb. 24 in Richardson Auditorium as part of "This is Princeton," the University's annual talent showcase. Students, faculty, staff, and alumni take part in acts that include music, dance, poetry, and film. Proceeds of the event support local youth arts programs.

GOING FOR THE TITLE -- Princeton sophomore Meagan Cowher goes up for a layup as Brown's Catherine Schape defends in the Tigers' 72-55 victory at Jadwin Gym March 3. On March 7, Cowher led Princeton with 20 points as the Tigers beat Penn, 67-55, to share the ivy championship with Brown and Dartmouth.

ALL THAT JAZZ -- Wilson "Willie Tee" Turbinton, a jazz pianist and producer from New Orleans who has been teaching at the University since he was displaced by Hurricane Katrina, takes a turn at the microphone during the Frist Fest activities outside the Frist Center May 4. Turbinton thanked the audience for their part in hurricane relief efforts and introduced members of the Princeton Jazz Ensemble before joining them on the keyboard for several songs.

REUNIONS 2006: Wet weekend weather didn't dampen the spirits of Ed Finch '41, tipping his 65th reunion hat, and classmate Bob Liebowitz during the P-rade on Saturday, June 1. While Reunions weekend was marked by periodic downpours, the rain largely held off during the P-rade.
