"Rifugio" (mountain huts) in Brenta Dolomites

There are a number of  mountain huts ("Rifugio") in Brenta Dolomites (as well as other Dolomite groups). Strategically placed with the original scope of acting as a base for climbers, they nowadays also provide walkers with basic overnight accommodation and warm meals at reasonable prices. Most of them offer dormitory-type bunk beds. They usually operated from 20 June to 20 September. It could be crowded in summer season so it's always a good idea to call in advance for reservation. Some huts will open in ski season in winter, but only provide drinking and eating service.

A few remarks on behavior in refuges: hiking boots are not worn inside, but taken off and left on appropriate shelving, usually just inside the front door. Some places provide rough slippers, otherwise take your own gym shoes or similar. A refuge has restricted space where living together calls for politeness and common sense; respect for the others asleep in the dormitory at night and the early morning. The refuge's generator is turned off at 10 pm, in line with Alpine Club regulations for "light out" and silence from 10pm to 6am.
