The snow sculpture shown Feb. 9 in From
the Archives was one of a series done after a winter snow storm
that year by students of professor/sculptor/boxer Joe Brown in the
art and archaeology department and, I was told, under his tutelage.
The sculptures were arranged in the (then) open space between the
department’s offices and Dod Hall, where I lived.
Attached are photos showing the bathing lady and other gems.
I don’t recognize any of the onlookers in your photo, and
I don’t know who the individual student sculptors were.
The figures attracted a great many visitors from the campus and
town.
