A letter from a reader: Princeton's billionaires

November 12, 2007:

I was gratified to see in the Oct. 24 Notebook section of PAW Oct. 24 so few Princetonians in Forbes' list of the 400 richest Americans (billionaires). The accumulation of so much wealth by an individual is clearly obscene and is so contrary to Princeton's service ethic as to be remarkable. Compare the commendable restraint of John Bogle '51 at the Vanguard Group. Experience shows that such great wealth inevitably corrupts, so the billionaires will reap in their personal lives what they have sown.
