Nickel
is a metal in group VIII of the periodic table with atomic number 29, an
atomic weight of 58.71, and a density of 8.9. It has a melting point of
1453 C.
The electronic configuration for the Ni atom is (Ar)(3d)10(4s)2, and the atomic radius is 0.124 nm. At room temperature the crystal structure is face-centered-cubic with a basis of one Ni atom. The fcc unit cell is illustrated. E = 207 GPa, sy = 70 MPa, UTS = 400 MPa, and a fracture strain of 0.65. |
