Fiber contents between Vcrit and the maximum Vf for
which the fibers are not in contact determine the property range that can
be achieved.
· For the graphite-epoxy
composite material: σ*m
= 0.1 GPa, σm
= 0.06 GPa, σ*f = 1.0 GPa so that: Vcrit
= 4.3 %, and Vmin = 3.9 %.
· These low fiber volume fraction values show that for practicable
materials: Vf >> Vcrit .
· The working range for Vf is approximately:
5
% < Vf < 75%
