Composite Materials
· For loading in the 2-direction, an isostress situation applies when the matrix and the fiber have perfect interfacial bonding. For this case: 
σC = σf = σm .
· The total elastic strain in the composite is the volume fraction weighted sum of the matrix and fiber strains: 
εC2 = Vf εf + Vmεm = (Vf σf / Ef ) + (Vm σm/ Em
so that: 

EC2 = (Ef Em) / (Ef {1 - Vf } + Em Vf )
