Kinetics and Microstructural Control

· In addition to maintaining a high yield stress, the alloy was required to have a creep strain of no more than 0.001 after 20,000 hours hot life, and exhibit a high room temperature UTS after this treatment.
· The RR58 Hiduminium alloy selected has the composition:
Al - (1.8 to 2.7) wt % Cu - (1.2 to 1.8) wt % Mg - (0.15 to 0.25) wt % Si - (0.9 to 1.4) wt % Fe - (0.8 to 1.4) wt % Ni - 0.2 wt % Mn - 0.2 wt % Ti
· This material is age hardened, and develops the microstructure shown (x 540). The precipitates of FeNiAl9 control the final grain size to about 0.1 mm.
