·
At
the eutectoid temperature the remaining Austenite
transforms to Ferrite and Fe3C.
· The final weight percents of the components can be determined from the lever rule applied at (723 - ε) C. At this temperature: Cα = 0.022 wt% C, Ccarbide = 6.67 wt% C , and C0 = 0.4 wt % C. * WαFe = (6.67 - 0.4)/(6.67 - 0.02) = 94 % * WCarbide = (0.4 - 0.02)/(6.67 - 0.02) = 6 % · A two-step application of the lever rule gives additional insight into the distribution of the ferrite and cementite in the microstructure. · At (723 + ε) C, the material is in the two phase (α + γ) region, and: WγFe= (0.4 - 0.02)/(0.77 - 0.02) = 50%, WαFe= (0.77 - 0.4)/(0.77 - 0.02) = 50%. |
