MILLER
INDICES
· Miller indices provide a description of crystal Directions and crystal Planes in terms of a group of numbers < u v w > or {h k l} contained in brackets with a defined meaning. |

·
The
diagram shows a part of a lattice with translation vectors (a1,a2,a3)
that form the coordinate system for describing the directions and planes.
This may not be an orthogonal system.
· A lattice translation vector is expressed in terms of integer numbers of its component primitive vectors: T = n1a1 + n2a2 + n3a3 · The Miller index of the vector [u v w] is chosen such that: u : v : w : : : n1 : n2 : n3 |
