These bicycle frames are fabricated in one piece by winding carbon-fiber prepreg tape or cloth into the required shape and reinforcing it at high stress locations with metal inserts or Kevlar. The Kestral was the first 'commercial' bike of this type and uses the CFPR in a conventional tube frame design. The Lotus (1982) has an air-foil section frame and CFPR wheels of aerodynamic form. The axles are cantilevered from the frame and the front fork. |
