The
Human Powerplant
Abstract
A human-powered vehicle is propelled by work done by one or more
humans. In essence, it is a long distance transportation device the performance
of which is determined by the work output capability of the riders.
This project will explore the work potential of humans (you!) and use this information
to decide on bounding parameters for the performance of a bicycle-rider
system. The facilities to be employed are the bicycle ergometer in the
MAE 199 laboratory and other ergometers in the Strength and Conditioning Center
at Dillon Gym. The photograph shows a former participant at work.
