This is our hotel on the beach. At the airport, we switched hotels and found this little corner of paradise. The children love swimming up to the bar and ordering exotic fruit drinks. I love being able to swim in a pool and gaze out at the Indian Ocean. Becca just got her hair braided by three women on the beach. Earlier in the day, all 5 of us went on a banana boat in the ocean. Just when we were at top speed, the boat drivers did a fast turn over another boat's wake, and the banana boat and the 5 of us all went flying in the air and then tumbling into the sea!
We got a table on the beach where we ate spicy grilled fish and watched the sun set over the ocean while Becca, Ari, and Max played with some local children. Communication between the kids was limited. When Becca asked a boy how old he was, he smiled and said "yes." During dinner, we were seranaded by musicians who played Beatles music, singing in strong Indonesian music. Lee started singing along in the same accent which made the kids laugh.
We went to a Hindu temple on a sea cliff that was guarded by wild monkeys. We bought food to feed the monkeys, but this one monkey couldn't wait and started to attack Ari to get the food. (We all had to wear yellow sashes because yellow is a holy color and the sash separates our upper spiritual self from the more earthy lower self).
This is a very friendly Muslim family from Java that we met while visiting the Tanah Lot temple, another sea temple that we photographed below.
Here is the Tanah Lot temple that we visited at sunset. We all had drinks at a cliff-side cafe and watched the sky grow dark as the waves crashed below.
