Torque Gauge

The engine torque output is measured by measuring the torque that is supplied to stop the rotation of the outer case of the Generator. The generator and the engine are in mechanical equilibrium and these two quantities have the same magnitude (but opposite sign).

The torque reading is obtained in two ways: (i) A strain gauge balance on an arm of known mechanical properties is used to provide torque information to the computer data acquisition system; (ii) A pressure capsule is deflected by the strain gauge balance arm and this pressure is displayed by the dynamometer torque gauge.

Torque and RPM information is to be used co compute the output work of the transparent engine when it is running in steady state. This work should be compared to that obtained from the (p,v) curve for the working fluid in the engine.
