Oxygen Filling Connection

When the sample and fusewire are in the bomb and the lid is fastened hand tight, the bomb must be filled with oxygen. The flexible tube attached to the oxygen cylinder is connected to the oxygen connection on the bomb lid. The knurled union nut should be tightened finger tight and the pressure release valve at the oxygen cylinder should be shut.

Once these connections are made, crack open the valve on the oxygen cylinder about one quarter turn and adjust the pressure in the connecting hose to fill the bomb slowly. Pressures up to 20 atmospheres of oxygen may be placed in the bomb. After the bomb is filled, turn off the oxygen supply and release the pressure in the connecting hose by opening the pressure release valve at the cylinder connection. The filling connection has a check valve that will maintain pressure in the bomb. Disconnect the hose.
